The Halacha

Why a Minyan at the Grave?

📜

The Halachic Requirement

Kaddish may only be recited in the presence of a Minyan — ten Jewish men. On the Yahrzeit, at Shloshim, and when rising from Shiva, Jewish law requires Kaddish to be said at the resting place of the departed. Without a Minyan, Kaddish cannot be recited. See: Shulchan Aruch, Yoreh De'ah.

🕊️

The Desire of the Departed

Our sages teach that the departed are aware of those who visit their graves. The Pnei Baruch (p. 412, Siman 37, §25) notes that parents feel pain when children do not visit for years. A graveside Minyan honors that bond. Learn more at Chabad.org.

🌍

For Families Abroad

Distance should never prevent a loved one from being honored on their Yahrzeit. We act as your representative at the graveside in Jerusalem — so that even from thousands of miles away, your loved one is remembered with a full Minyan, exactly as Halacha requires.

📸

You Will Be There — Through Our Eyes

We send you real-time photos and video documentation from the graveside via WhatsApp, so you can feel present in this sacred moment even from afar. Many families treasure these images for years.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Every year before my father's Yahrzeit I was a nervous wreck trying to figure out how to get a Minyan to Har HaZeitim from Borough Park. Since I found this service, I just call, pay, and watch the photos come in live. It gives me a peace I never had before."

— S.F., Borough Park, Brooklyn

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"We are a frum family in Manchester and travelling to Jerusalem for every Yahrzeit simply isn't possible. Knowing that a real Minyan of yeshiva bochurim stood at my mother's kever and said Kaddish — and seeing it in photos — means everything. My whole family feels we did right by her."

— R.G., Manchester, UK

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"In Crown Heights we talk. Word spreads fast when someone does things right. This service is the real deal — yirei Shamayim bochurim, on time, with photos and video. I've recommended it to at least ten families in our community. Everyone says the same: menuchas hanefesh."

— M.K., Crown Heights, Brooklyn

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"I took the Full Day Kollel package for my father's first Yahrzeit. Knowing that a Kollel spent an entire day learning Torah l'ilui nishmaso — on top of the minyan at the kever — I felt I had done everything possible for him. That peace of mind is worth more than anything."

— Y.W., Borough Park, Brooklyn

Jewish Tradition

Understanding Yahrzeit & Kaddish

Yahrzeit (יאָרצײַט) is the annual Jewish observance of a loved one's passing, calculated according to the Hebrew calendar. It is one of the most meaningful expressions of Jewish memory — a day to honor the soul and pray for its continued elevation.

Kaddish is a sanctification of God's name recited by mourners. Halacha requires a Minyan of ten adult Jewish men — without which Kaddish cannot be recited. According to the Shulchan Aruch, Yoreh De'ah, arranging for Kaddish at the graveside is a profound act of love and honor.

Tehillim (Psalms) are traditionally recited at the graveside, with chapters corresponding to the letters of the departed's Hebrew name — giving the prayer a personal connection to the specific soul being honored.

Har HaZeitim (Mount of Olives Cemetery) is the oldest continuously-used Jewish cemetery in the world, estimated to hold over 150,000 graves across 3,000 years of history. According to Jewish tradition, it will be the site of the resurrection of the dead — making it the most sought-after burial location in the world.

For families in communities like Borough Park, Crown Heights, Manchester, or Antwerp — travelling to Jerusalem for every Yahrzeit is often impossible. Our service ensures your loved one is honored with a full, halachically-valid Minyan, exactly as they deserve.

Questions

Frequently Asked

Why is a Minyan required at a Yahrzeit or Azkara?

Jewish law (Halacha) requires a Minyan of ten men for Kaddish and Tehillim to be recited at the place of rest of the departed — on the Yahrzeit, Shloshim, or when rising from Shiva. Without a Minyan, Kaddish cannot be said. The Pnei Baruch (p. 412, Siman 37, §25) also notes that parents feel pain when children do not visit their grave for an extended period.

What exactly is included in the service?

Every visit includes: private transport, a full Minyan of G-d-fearing yeshiva students at the graveside, Tehillim by the letters of your loved one's Hebrew name, Kaddish, El Maleh Rachamim, candle lighting, and real-time photo documentation sent via WhatsApp.

Does the service include Mishnayot learning?

Yes — Mishnayot learning L'ilui Nishmat is included in Package 2 ($500) and Package 3 ($950). It is performed with full dedication, covering all letters of your loved one's Hebrew name.

How far in advance do I need to contact you?

We recommend at least 48 hours in advance. However, we do our best to accommodate urgent same-day requests — please call us directly. Our phone line is active 24 hours a day.

How does payment work?

We accept PayPal, Zelle, and international bank transfer. Payment is made after confirming your visit details. We send full payment instructions via WhatsApp. There are no hidden fees — the price you see is the price you pay.

Do you operate on Shabbat or Jewish holidays?

We do not operate on Shabbat or Yom Tov. For Yahrtzeits falling on these days, we coordinate the visit for Erev Shabbat or the following weekday according to Halachic guidance.

How do you find the grave?

You provide the name and cemetery. If you have a section and row number, that helps — but we are very experienced with all three cemeteries and can locate graves independently. Transportation is always included.

Can I contact you by email?

Yes — ten.minyan@gmail.com. For time-sensitive arrangements, calling or WhatsApp is strongly preferred. Our phone is active 24 hours a day.
